The hair I used here isn't the best quality I have seen, just standard heat resistant hair extensions from eBay, but even so I think the look is amazing!
In these samples I used a mix of three colours - #18, #10, and white - to try to emulate my own hair colour, a light ashy brown/dark ashy blonde with about 20% grey. I think I nailed it! I love the way it catches the light in the second shot.
Looks great. What do you think about the knots on the darker hairs? Are they visible? As they are synthetic you cant bleach them. But based on your photos, they look fine... I assume you use single knots?
ReplyDeleteBest,
BPVP
Thanks, BPVP! Yes single knots, and they really don't seem to be an issue. The knots seem to stay tiny, much tighter than with human hair.
DeleteI did a quick attachment of the test piece on my forehead yesterday and was really happy with how it looked! If I'm being ultra critical (which I usually am...! :P) I would say that there is something that isn't *quite* as natural-looking as with human hair. I think the cause of this is that with synthetic, even though the knots are tiny, the colour stays solid right down to the root. With bleached knots on human hair, the root of the hair is also lightened slightly, which looks more natural to my eye. I will attach a couple of photos to this post so you can see what I mean.
For a perfect result, I would consider adding a small section, maybe a quarter of an inch deep, of human hair just at the hairline and bleach the knots.
But honestly, in real life at a normal viewing distance, the synthetic looks absolutely fantastic!
PS - I also graduated the hairline a bit too much on the sample piece. I think a fuller hairline, even with the synthetic hair alone, would give a more natural result.
DeleteLooks really great! The knots really seem to be ok. And the lace seems to disappear well as well. What kind of lace are you using/how much dernier?
DeleteAre you planning to do a full topper?
Yes, I think it would be fine as-is, without the human hair front.
DeleteThe lace on the test pieces is actually the relatively heavy lace from Amazing Hair Store. It is quite stiff and scratchy, but does disappear surprisingly well. Not sure what the denier would be, but it's heavier than the Royer 40 denier, so I would guess about 60...?
I am waiting for some other colours of the synthetic hair to arrive so that I can experiment a bit more, then I will definitely work on a full piece.
honey, where do you buy your lace? it's practically invisible! i am so amazed!! :):)
ReplyDeleteHi Joanna, this would just be the inexpensive lace from Amazing Hair Store: http://www.amazinghairstore.com/hair-wigs-lace-to-make-front-lace-wigs-fleshtone-color/. It is good sturdy lace and disappears well. I also use much finer lace from Hugo Royer in the UK. Their #2905 is amazing and is virtually invisible once it is attached, but it is much more fragile than the other one. I hope this helps!
DeleteSure, this is such a great answer! I thought the lace is going to be very expensive as it's very natural but I have heard about Amazing Hair Store lace before, I was actually thinking about getting it but now I don't have to - I am for sure buying it! Thank you so much Dave and have a great day sweetie xxx
DeleteThere is also a seller on Aliexpress who sells nice lace at a very good price. It is very similar to the Amazing Hair Store lace, maybe just a little bit heavier, but still fine enough for front hairlines: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/1-yard-swiss-lace-only-for-making-lace-wig-caps-lace-wigs-lace-closure-toupee-5/836920631.html
DeleteThanks so much Dave!!! I am a HUGE aliexpress fan so the link is very useful to me so your recommendation is noted:) I think I am going to purchase both and just see which one I like better. Thanks for being so awesome:) best regards to you xoxo
